Understanding Link Quotas & Usage Limits

Shaf monitors plan usage at the edge to ensure platform reliability while giving your campaigns generous capacity. Understanding how quotas are calculated helps you plan upgrades proactively.

What Counts Toward Quotas

Bot traffic: Shaf uses Cloudflare's bot scoring to identify and filter automated crawlers from click counts. Verified bot traffic is not counted toward your monthly click quota.

Monitoring Current Usage

Real-time usage meters are available in the dashboard:

Navigate to Settings → Billing in the sidebar.

View Usage Meters

Review the visual progress bars for each quota dimension:

Total active links in your workspace
Connected custom domains
Active team seats

Get Notified Automatically

Ensure your organization's Notification Email (Settings → General) is current. Shaf also fires a quota.warning webhook event — see Webhook Configuration to automate alerts to Slack, PagerDuty, or custom systems.

Planning Around Quotas

Archiving Unused Links

Links that haven't received clicks in 90+ days can be archived rather than deleted. Archived links don't count against active link quotas but are preserved for reference and can be restored.

Click Burst Campaigns

If you plan a high-volume campaign (product launches, viral social posts), upgrade your plan before the campaign. Retroactive quota increases during an exceeded period restore new-link creation immediately.

Subscribe to the quota.warning webhook event to trigger automated alerts in Slack, PagerDuty, or email before you hit 100%. See Configuring Webhooks.

Troubleshooting

Received 429 Too Many Requests when creating new links

A 429 Too Many Requests error on link creation means your workspace has hit the active links or monthly click quota. Check Settings → Billing to view your current usage. Upgrade your plan or wait for the monthly billing cycle to renew.

My links stopped redirecting after reaching 100% of click quota

Existing links continue redirecting during a grace buffer period even after 100% quota. If redirects have stopped, the grace buffer may have expired. Upgrade your plan immediately to restore redirect functionality.

Are bot visits counted against my monthly click allowance?

Shaf uses Cloudflare's bot scoring to automatically filter verified bots from click counts. If you believe specific bot traffic is being incorrectly counted, contact support@shaf.app with the affected link slugs and timeframes — we can audit the raw event logs.
